Arsene Wenger: Quota will 'kill' the Premier League

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, has warned plans by Sepp Blatter, the Fifa president, to impose limits of five foreign players per team would "kill" the English Premier League as the world's best competition.

Currently, the European Union states quotas would breach laws on employment and free movement of labour. But Blatter believes that stance should be challenged "to protect the national identity of the football clubs".

"It would kill the Premier League at the moment for being the best league in the world, certainly," Wenger said. "Why? Because you can see a massive reduction in the quality. If you have the choice between 200 million players or 50 million players, it is less good. It is as simple as that.

"It will protect the bad players, or those who are not good enough.

Toyota shows new driving simulator for testing car safety

SUSONO, Japan -- A driver in Toyota's new safety testing simulator gets a 360-degree, synchronized view of the road and landscape, signs, pedestrians, street-side stores and faraway Mount Fuji.

But the drive is only make-believe.

The simulator has a Lexus inside a 15-foot high, 23-foot diameter dome that provides the sense of acceleration, vibration and sound of driving a car.

The dome swivels, tips and swishes on a rail to deliver the sensations of driving while computer graphic imagery on the sides of the dome gives the impression that the trip is real.

In a demonstration for reporters Monday at a Toyota technology center, the dome moved in a 115 foot long building, skidding on a rail horizontally and vertically.

When a driver pushed on the brakes, the dome tilted forward to give the effect of stopping.

Mills: Why don't we drink rats' milk?

DOWN through the centuries, Speakers' Corner in London has built a reputation as a place where the eccentric have been accepted alongside the radical, and strong political views could be voiced without fear of being silenced.

Yesterday, it was eccentricity which was given a voice as a mixed crowd of media and the public listened in increasing disbelief as Heather Mills called for the nation to switch from drinking cows' milk to that of rats and dogs.

Carolyn Hax: She put desires out there; now he's hiding

Dear Carolyn: I have been friends for two years with a guy I volunteer with in the community. I told him (in a roundabout way) that I wanted to be more than friends. He then avoided me for almost two weeks and said he's more interested in developing himself as a person. When he told me this, I accepted that he just wanted to be friends. But now he seems to avoid me or approach me with kid gloves. Do I let him continue to treat me this way until he sees from my behavior that I'm not devastated by his lack of romantic interest?

Wolfpack has turned season around with solid teamwork

RALEIGH - This is pretty incredible, really.

Six games into the season, N.C. State was a pretty bad football team with a really bad record.

It was 1-5, its only victory coming against lower-level Wofford, and the biggest stars continued to go out with season-ending injuries.

Four weeks later, State will come to Winston-Salem on Saturday afternoon to play Wake Forest riding a four-game winning streak, its overall record at 5-5, its ACC record at 3-3.

The Wolfpack has beaten East Carolina on the road, Virginia at home, Miami on the road and rival North Carolina at home in the time since, and has played itself into position to become bowl-eligible with a win on Saturday or next week against Maryland.

It won't win the Atlantic Division or make its way to Jacksonville for the ACC championship game, but no other team in the ACC can boast a four-game winning streak at the moment.
